About Dallas
Dallas committed his professional career to implementing
the scientific findings of his PhD research on the nutritional value of sorghum,
the most important grain for feeding billions of poor people
surviving on subsistence farming in the semi-arid tropics.
Dallas was a teacher, secondary school principal,
and post-graduate research advisor to thousands of students.
Dallas married Jean Eidemiller on 1950.06.24 and they lived and
worked together in the USA where they launched their careers,
followed by 11 years in Nigeria and 18 years in India.
Their daughter Karen Sue was born in Nigeria on 1954.10.09.
Their son Kris Sydney was born in Indiana, USA on 1957.06.19.
Dallas set out on his first voyage overseas when he was 17 years old.
He had just graduated from high school during the spring of 1945
when he volunteered to help replenish livestock in Europe
in the aftermath of the devastation of WWII.
This two-month journey on the high seas between USA and Italy
was the first of his many adventures to come
which opened doors to him in more than 100 countries
throughout the course of his life.

His Journey
Dallas' journey began on a large farm in Ohio where he grew up with his parents and brother Eldon, 8 years younger than him.
Soon after be graduated from college, he got married and set off on an adventure as an agricultural educator in Nigeria. This sector of his journey lasted almost two decades with two extended furloughs to return to the USA for further studies. After leaving Nigeria, he returned to Purdue University to conduct post-graduate research. On earning a PhD in agronomy, he set out again overseas to serve as a researcher and educator at an international crop research institute in India where he and Mom lived for 18 years. When he retired in 1992, he and Mom moved back to the USA where they enjoyed many years together being grandparents, and eventually great grandparents. |
